Human resource is the most important asset in an organization. Good health and strong mental level in an employee are very important for the success of the organization. Employee well-being means a person who is rich with physical, mental, emotional and economic strength. There are many important factors that affect employee well-being. Such as physical and mental health, social connection, job satisfaction, good work balance environment, job security, family happiness etc. 


Categories of employee well-being

Physical well-being

Physical well-being can be identified as apart of employee well-being. That means being physically fit. An example of this is the medical assistance given by the organization to the employees for the control of chronic diseases.

Mental well-being

Mental well-being means that a person is mentally happy and strong. It is common to see employees suffering from mental stress nowadays. To overcome such challenges, organization may use methods like teamwork shift work etc.

Financial Well-being

Financial well-being is receiving sufficient financial benefits to meet the needs and wants of employees. For this purpose, apart from remuneration, giving over time allowances, annual incentives, insurance coverage, etc. can be considered examples (Novakovic, 2024).     

                                                                                 

Why employee well-being important to an organization?

Increased productivity

If employees are strong in their physical and mental health, they can focus more on their task and job. Therefore, the products are very efficient and effective. Thus, production grows steadily and effortlessly.

Retention and Recruitment

Employee well-being is important not only for recruitment but also to retain current employees. People love to be appreciated and valued. It will increase their loyalty to organization.  

Healthcare costs

When employees can work with less stressful environment in a positive work culture, the company does not have to cover medical costs and insurance claims unnecessarily.

Employee self-motivation, innovation and creativity

A well behaved and a self-motivated employee will always work hard to achieve high while trying to innovate new ideas. Further such individuals will provide leadership to other colleagues to maximize productivity.

Reputation and Brand image

The success of the organization is demonstrated by the employees of the organization to outside parties. It attracts customers and investors to the company. Out of this, the company will get free publicity and a good reputation (Novakovic, 2024).


Challenges of employee well-being

Several challengers can identify employee well-being in the workplace (Ganesh, 2024).

 

  1. Boredom at work due to problems arising from unduly combining work life with personal life commitments.
  2. Overworking and pressuring workers to achieve hard-to-meet profit conditions.
  3. Lack of the good relationships and communication form upper management to lower employees.
  4. Reluctance to work due to a lack of resources and facilities to carry out the work properly.
  5. Lack of interest in working efficiently is due to a lack of financial rewards relative to the amount of work.
  6. Due to not imparting the professional training and knowledge required for the job, workers are trapped in the same framework.  


Why digitalization important to employee well-being?



Today's young generation maintains a lot of connection with technology. Therefore, digitalization can help the organization with the best development of its employees (Lovsin, 2023).

  1. Implementation of continuous teaching and training programmers for employees through online learning and development. 
  2. Wellness apps and platforms can be used for mental health, stress management, positive attitude development, physical health measurement, etc.
  3. The new changes of institution, employee problems, etc. can be discussed through video conferences involving the employees scattered all over the country and maintaining a good communication relationship.
  4. A productive work environment can be created by introducing new technological equipment and computer software to the employees to increase their work efficiency.

Through digitalization, many organizations have been inspired to create an efficient work environment for the best development of their employees.


Suggestions for improving employee well-being.



The well-being of employees directly affects the achievement of the organization's goals for the purpose, we suggest the following measures that can be followed by the institution.

  1. To create a corporate environment that appreciates the value of employees and their hard work.
  2. Providing financial benefits and giving space to manage their personal lives.
  3. Conducting training programs and providing opportunities for them to improve their professional skills.
  4. Providing opportunities for gym membership, leisure trips, leisure programs, etc.
  5. Implementation of counselling services, positive thinking programs, etc.
  6. To reduce work pressure, give realistic goal and divide work equally among all.
  7. creating a good communication process, listening to employee's problems, and providing feedback.

Through the implementation of these proposals, a close-knit group of employees will be created. A good work environment has a positive impact on job satisfaction, efficiency and productivity, employee attraction and retention, and the reputation of the organization.

 



Conclusion

Focusing on employee well-being is critical to achieving organizational success. By prioritizing physical and mental health, work life balance, professional development, etc., the organization has benefits such as productivity and employee retention. it turns out that employee well-being is a catalyst for overall success of the organization, not just individuals.

  6. A crucial part of HRM in global context has been touched base by this article. Fully agree with the author’s conclusion. Every modern day organization and functioning business, should have practices to enhance employee wellness through many aspects. Such as;
    1. Leadership commitment - each leader’s performance review should reflect the overall wellbeing and initiatives taken on the employees overlooked by the leader to ensure a healthy culture of employee wellbeing is promoted.
    2. Assess employee needs and preferences on a regular basis through surveys, focus groups & one-on-one’s to identify key areas of concern. This subsequently helps to tailor make a well-being program for employees.
    3. Promote and prioritize work life balance within an organization - implementing flexible work arrangements, encouraging time offs, setting boundaries on after hour communications.
    4. Create a supportive work environment where employees are free and encouraged to speak up, report unethical practices. Encourage 2 way & constructive feedback, recognize and reward wellbeing efforts and promote a culture of empathy and compassion.
